Great read! (November 6, 2016)
By Allison C.

I literally just finished this book half an hour ago! I spent so much of the book rooting for different characters as they struggled against and within their own situations. The characters are so real, you just want everything to turn out right for all of them! I admit, I had a hard time with some of the more historically-oriented writing, but I was desperate to get an understanding of the background of the story. Man, was it worth it!

This book was a total heart-stopper! I can hardly wait to sink my teeth into Book 3!!!

Are You Kidding Me?
(January 26, 2016)
By Chad C.

Well, my review will no doubt differ from most, as it usually does. I have particularized my reading habits to include only authors who can deliver a sequel that exceeds my happiness with book one. I'll usually wait for about six months after a sequel hits the shelf before I buy it; cost irrelevant.

My list of favorites are well compiled with authors such as C.S. Lewis, Frank Peretti, Ted Dekker, and Francis Chan among others. When I read Deliver Us From Darkness - Volume One, I was completely enthralled and captivated from start to finish. I read it three times within the first week and a half, so I was very skeptical about the sequel because the original was so great.

WHEN DARKNESS COMES (Book 2):
This book is OFF THE CHAIN! I have a very high standard for sequels as I mentioned before and this one has exceeded my expectations!

I heard so many things and have been monitoring the reviews on Amazon, Goodreads, and Facebook - just waiting. I didn't make it six months.

The story is brilliantly continued and written in a very compelling style that has placed Frank in my top spot among Christian and secular artists alike. Before this sequel and if I'm being honest, Ted Dekker was easily my favorite followed by Peretti, and then Frank with Deliver Us From Darkness. But with this sequel, Frank, in my "book," has thrust himself to the top of my faves list and made more than an adequate name for himself. I guarantee that this book will not fail to ENTHRALL you from start to finish.

W. Franklin Lattimore - you sir are now my favorite author of all time. I believe the book was in my hands on Saturday, January 9th of this year. I have read it twice and took my sweet 'ol time doing it.

Seriously, folks - It's time for you to have your cake and eat it too!

Great read and hard to put this book down! (January 9, 2016)

By Floyd Patrick

I have to agree with the other reviews that are found on this page. When dealing with sequels whether a movie or a book I always wonder if the next will be as good as the last. Sometimes I have been disappointed. This writing is as good as the first and I was not disappointed one bit. Frank was able to incorporate education and entertainment together and I was impressed. Great read, great characters and storyline. Highly recommend this book along with "Deliver Us from Darkness".

Best book Ive read in a LONG time! (January 4, 2016)

One word for the Author, Frank Lattimore....Amazing! Frank not only knows how to grip a reader by the heart but he knows the way to put the reader into the story. From the first page, you begin to encompass your feelings into the characters. There are so many things about this series that have Me more than excited when I read them...the first is that it really makes you view your own personal spiritual battles and and your own personal demons in a better, open minded way! Frank throws real life circumstances into a book that is about the occult, witchcraft and demonic oppression. This is a heavy read....a heart pounding, super enthralling READ! It only took me a matter of weeks to read the first 2 books in this Series. If you are looking for a leisure read, for lunch break....I don't recommend this book because you WILL NOT be able to put it down!!!

Help! It sucked me in and I can't get out! (January 4, 2016)

By Caroline Madison

Let me begin by saying that sequels are hard for me. Once I have taken that initial plunge into an author’s world and acclimated to characters and setting, I want to stay there. I want everything that follows to stay there. But it rarely does.
That established, I thoroughly enjoyed the first book in this series, "Deliver Us From Darkness", and had high expectations for another installment-- in spite of my penchant for abhorring sequels. However, my expectations could not have foreseen what Lattimore had in store for them.

When reading the first book, I did sometimes have to make a conscious decision to sit down and exist for an hour or two at a time in that world. "When Darkness Comes" pried the illusion of decision making from my rather willing fingers, taking me captive for a full forty-eight hours before it released me to emerge, gasping and blinking, into my harsh reality where the dishes still needed to be washed. Lattimore’s already substantial skill as a storyteller has only improved.

There is nothing that makes the loss of beloved characters easy to bear, so I won’t try to soften the blow: a couple of favorites from book one do not have major roles to play in this story.

Wait… what did you think I was going to tell you? ;-)

Yet, Lattimore fashions for us a set of new characters just as vivid, delightfully faulty, and intricate as the last. Again faced with evil beyond their ability to handle, Brent and his family draw closer to each other and to God as they engage in battle: a war on earth with eternal consequences.

The research that Lattimore obviously poured into this story certainly paid off, as it was the realism that fastened around my ankle and dragged me ever deeper. Not to mention the glimpses of ancient history he scatters throughout the novel. A past so entangled with the present as to be inseparable. And while I don’t like sequels, I do enjoy historical fiction.

Add to all these things Lattimore’s familiar signature of plot twists, clever humor, and spiritual insight, and you have a book that even a reader who traditionally dreads sequels can excitedly recommend to all her acquaintances.

Seriously, don’t be silly. Buy it.

Absolutely captivating!! (January 4, 2016)

By Sherry

I love it when a book is part of a sequel...that way when you turn the last page, you don't feel like you are saying goodbye forever to old friends. Rarely, though do I enjoy the sequels as much as I did the first book. That is NOT the case in Franklin Lattimore's most recent book, When Darkness Comes. I was captivated from the get go and enjoyed this book even more than the first one! Now anxiously awaiting number three!
These books are not only captivating and entertaining....they are educational. Spiritual warfare is not fictional and Frank's characters teach us how to do battle!

And you've done it again! Left me completely speechless at the end of the novel, hanging on a cliff wanting more! I absolutely loved following the clues and being 'involved' with the Lawtons and the police. I felt like I was putting it all together at the same time. I honestly had no clue what to think or expect during the second half of the book. I only know it kept me wanting to turn pages faster than I could read. Great Job! You certainly know how to write an enthralling, compelling piece of literature! I can't wait to read the third book.
